What kind of plant or flower I can use?

I’m trying to start my first garden and I do not know what kind of flower or plant that can withstand year around. You see I live in
north Texas where there is very hot summers and very cold winters(Snow). I am looking for a plant or flower that can with last the harsh temperature north Texas brings year around.
