WINTER GARDENING NZ
Cow Poo for garden?

Boy I’ve made a boo boo.
I just hosed fresh cow poo into my garden thinking I’ve done a great job.

We are at present in to our winter here in NZ.

Will it still be safe when we come out of our winter.
I’m reading about e-coli and bacteria in some answers here.

What do I do?

I’m a new garden enthusiast and I think that I was a bit too over enthusiastic.

It should be fine, the winter will help kill and break down the manure and you’ll be able to plant in it ok. Till it well into the soil, don’t worry about the bacteria, and you’ll be fine. I honestly wouldn’t worry, just wash your hands when you’re done in the garden.

I’ve used fresh and aged manures, from cows, chickens, horses, goats, and I’m still fine and never had an infection from it. However, it is a good idea to get a tetanus shot if you’re going to do much gardening, since it is the illness you are most likely to get while rooting around.
