OKLAHOMA FALL GARDENING
Posted in Gardening | No Comments »
I would really like to make a garden for end of summer/fall vegetables, Help me Please! No idea what Im doing?
My daughter has many food allergies, so I would really like to make a small garden in my backyard to have for the end of summer, into fall. I have no idea what I need to do, what do I do to the ground? Do I til it? What do i use as fertilizer? I’ve heard about composte piles, but what do I do? I live in a neighborhood, so there are occasionally stray animals that will wander into my yard, how do I keep them away? What are some good veggies that will be good for this time of the year?
I live in Oklahoma, so you never know what the weathers going to be like!
I will choose a best answer! Thanks so much!

Here is some info from Oklahoma State about gardening in your state, it doesn’t look like the timing is that different from my area. This article also give some info on soil prep although I must say that it can take a while to get your ground “right” and you are cutting it close to get your plants in.
In your situation it might be useful to plant some things you would like in tubs and spend some serious effort to prep a good size area for a spring garden. Find out the pH (acidity ) of your area to figure out how much lime to add. (Ask local garden centers or farm stores about a soil test). The soil you use in the tubs should be of good quality and later you will be able to add it to the garden or layer it in a compost heap and I strongly recommend starting one if you can.
Good luck, don’t go over board at the last minute like this, it could be discouraging.
