SUNSET GARDENING CALIFORNIA
Do you have any suggestions for my farm?

I’m going to start up a beginners farm, this is my first attempt at anything in gardening or working with plants, it seems like a really useful skill to learn and also seems kind of fun. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with any suggestions of plants to start out with. I live in about 60F-90F temperatures with dry conditions year round, the southern California area. The spot I’m considering gets direct sunlight from about an hour and a half after sunrise, till an hour before sunset.

So do you have any ideas? I’m considering anything, preferably stuff that grows pretty fast to keep my interest. I am also looking for cool flowers and tall plants, I just don’t know what to start out with…

Thanks!

Since your area is drier, you’ll want to make sure and water yoru plants daily and keep weeds out – that is the hardest thing to find time for. Other than that some easy growing things that I’ve been starting to grow in my own first year garden are, tomato plants (romas), spinach – super easy and great cooked or eaten raw in a salad, carrots, some herbs, pretty much the sky is the limit for the area you live in. Go to your local landscaping store and pick out a few plants that do well in direct sunlight and you’ll be on your way!!!

good luck!
