ORGANIC GARDENING HOMESTEAD

What are the best books for a beginning organic gardener?
I have read The Urban Homestead and it has whetted my appetite to do more gardening but to do it better. I am interested in doing it without chemical fertilizers because we are a corner lot with two storm drains that go right in to the Mississippi.
If it helps, our lot is mostly partly shady with a small area in full sun and small area in mostly shade. Anything that is urban-specific or Midwest/Minnesota-specific would be awesome provided it’s basic enough for me to know what the heck they are talking about. Thanks!!!

Most of what I learned about organic gardening came from Organic Gardening magazine, and 20+ years later I still learn good stuff in every issue. Organic Gardening is a Rodale publication, and you can’t go wrong with any of the Rodale Institute’s fine books.
