ORGANIC GARDENING CERTIFICATION
Is organic food really organic?

I visited a whole foods store yesterday for the first time. the vegetables are labled organic — but none of these vegetables had the brown spots and insect gnaw areas on them like the ones i grow in my own garden.

also — the organic beef boasted the the cows lived on fresh air, pure water and organic foods. how can one be so sure?

i think its all a scam. the prices were double of what normal foods cost.

it’s impossible to guarantee 100% that the water a cow is drinking is pure as also the air. all the food they eat would need to be 100% pure as well. then the cow would not be able to have ever had any vaccinations. herds don’t do well without vaccinations.

i’ve been told that these organic certifications are routine. who’s in charge of the testing and how often is it done?

your thoughts please.

If the food is grown under controlled conditions, it can still be classified organic. Some of the fruits and veggies might not have the insect scars, because the organic growers use natural items to repel the pests. They use other plants, other insects and organic materials to keep the insects away.
A lot of the meats and poultry that is sold as organic grown, are raised on smaller farms. Most are not part of a giant herd. Chickens are fed organic feeds, like real corn, and cows are fed organic feeds like corn, oats and quality hays. The higher costs is due to the scarcity of the organic raised animals and vegetables. Buy an organic chicken breast and a breast bought at Wal-Mart, prep them both the same, and you will taste the difference. Also, I have noticed that I don’t feel ill after eating organic foods. By ill, I mean headaches, and diarrhea. I didn’t notice that I felt bad after eating “regular” food, until I had all organics for a few days, then went back to regular. There is a noticeable difference. Organic foods are regulated by the FDA in some part, and the industry is partially policed by itself.
