What types of plants or shrubs soak up water, don’t need a lot of sun, or extra watering?

We are pulling some dead evergreen type shrubs from a framed garden that lines the front of our house in one low corner (where a lot of water likes to be, but does not necessarily pool there, just very damp). There is a tall pine tree who’s branches have towered over this area, so it also does not get much sun. We are in hardiness zone 6 (Ohio) if that helps.
