NATIONAL GARDENING MONTH 2007

Entrepreneurial Woman: Top 10 Business Trends for a Down Economy

Forrester Research recently conducted a survey and reported these findings:

Online retail will rise 17% to $204 billion this year, with the largest sales being in apparel, computers and cars.

When prices rise, consumers become more frugal shoppers and cultivate green thumbs. According to the National Gardening Survey, the sale of lawn and gardening products totaled $35 billion in 2007.

This is $1 billion more than the previous year.

Entrepreneur magazine has given some simple advice this month: “Cash in on the current state of the economy with this simple equation–Fuel Prices + Credit Crunch + Health Care Concerns + Rising Inflation + Increasing Home Foreclosures = Plenty of Business Opportunities.”

If you are thinking of starting a business, or looking to begin a new career, here are some trends to pay real close attention to:

1. Business Coaching: An outpouring of new business start ups are on their way. Be prepared to help them be successful.

2. Social Networking: Connect with prospects, pick up where every other media leaves off.

3. Alternative Fuels: Everyone is trying to cut energy costs right now.

4. Environmental: The green surge in America is just beginning.

5. Health Care: The elderly population is larger now more than ever, and is increasing. More and more people need lots of care.

6. Discount retailers: Stores that emphasize value on the cheap. Think Wal-Mart and dollar stores.

7. Salons, Spas and Beauty Products: Think more superficial treatments and less plastic surgery.

8. IT and miscellaneous tech services: Attending a meeting or seminar online is cheaper than traveling to one.

9. Credit and Debt Management: Help consumers watch their wallets better.

10: Luxury Products: Yacht sales are up. Designer ware sales are also up.

When the economy gets tough, the tough get resourceful.
