GARDENING XERISCAPING
What requirements in my yard will I need to sustain a xeriscaped landscape?

I live in Amarillo, Texas (yes, the city highlighted in the song “Amarillo by mornin’”)
I have three open acres of PRARIELAND around my house. I hope to do some natural landscaping in my yard. Before / if I start, I wonder what requirements work *best* for xeriscaping in my arid / windy climate.
Thanks for suggestions and ideas.

And I have already consulted with the local Amarillo Botanical Gardens as they agree that my goal seems like a LOFTY adventure.

I agree with the person above me that to focus on using native plants would be the way to go.

Found an interesting book on the subject, you can read some of it online:

I do know where you can acquire a wide range of native plants via mail order. Take a look at the Prairie Moon for plant ideas:

For xeriscape plants that include natives and non-natives:

Before you purchase anything though you should take your time learning about landscape design and trying out various plans on paper.

Get some landscape design books and study.
