How do I transport dirt from Italy, for my wedding?
I am doing a “planting” ceremony instead of a candle lighting… basically, we’re going to have a pot of dirt from our yard (the home we bought together), and we’re going to add dirt from my birth town (Waterbury, CT), and his birth town (Cheiti, Italy… in the Abruzzo region). Then we will plant a seed, and grow something beautiful to plant in our garden.
Anyways, I guess my thing is that I’m wondering how I would go about getting the little teeny bit of dirt from Italy to America, without my future Uncle-In-Law (who is coming from Italy for the wedding) getting slammed and searched at Immigration???? Any ideas of maybe someone who could send me a bag in an envelope or something? LOL.
How long do you have? I’d ask the post office if it can be mailed – perhaps one of his relatives can mail it instead?? If there’s not enough time, maybe such a thing can be put in checked baggage – ask the airline his relatives are flying?
