GARDENING QUALIFICATIONS UK
What sort of job should I aim for?

I have a degree in economics, but don’t want a banking/accountancy job, which is where that degree often leads. I also don’t want to do further academic work, although that can certainly lead to a good career (teaching/legal qualification, for instance). I’m something of an all-rounder: pretty good at reports, working with numerical data, and dealing with people, but not astonishingly good at any of them. I’ve spent 18 months since university travelling, taking it easy at home, running a small business with a friend, and during my masses of spare time, just enjoying myself – sports, music, landscaping my garden…..I guess I need quite a laidback job. Who knows of one, perhaps something unusual? (Live in the UK incidentally, but don’t let that put off non-Britons.)

Your degree doesn’t have to dictate what type of work you seek. My sister got her degree in Economics and entered the insurance field, a friend went into teaching. One career path that can be very “laid back” is sales, and often requires any degree. You may consider becoming a loan officer which utilizes your degree but offers plenty of freedom and lots of financial potential, without the boredom of accountancy type work.
