GARDENING NZ
Six and out?

What are your thoughts on this? (from the Sideswipe section of the NZ Herald, Wednesday

“Cricketers at the Harrogate Cricket Club have been banned from hitting sixes because of health and safety concerns. Big hitters will be automatically out, under the new rules. The decision was made after a meeting with nearby residents. Most of the neighbours are very supportive of the club, but a few complain about balls in their gardens, says the club’s chairman. “As long as everyone knows the rules at the start of the game, you just play to the rules.”"

I would hate to be a batsman who momentarily forgot this rule and connected with one too well, only to be given out for clearing the fence.

What would the entry in the scorebook be for the method of dismissal – out hit six?

I don’t think it is right for a cricket club to mess with the fundamentals of the game in this manner – could they consider moving the ground or any other options?

Well mate all i can say is -”It just ai’nt cricket’…..

i dont think they have the right to mess with the fundaments of cricket neither, what would a cricket match be with out the big hitting sixers?…
Very boring, that’s what it would be…Gee i thought 6 and out was one of the rules of back yard cricket…lol

What i would like to know is how long has the ground been there, and how long have the residents been there?…They think they can move in and push out a sport that has been played there for years…Toss em out i say….
