GARDENING ISSUES
what’s a good way to prevent crows — besides scarecrows — in your garden?

I’ve got a crow issue, and my garden is super beautiful — i can’t mess it up with a scarecrow!! What is some things i can use to prevent them from coming and killing my crops!? Thanx!!

This may seem contrary to common sense but try calling the crows. When living in Virginia, I had crow problems. I lived in the country so a neighbor suggested calling them in and shooting them. So I went to the sporting goods store and bought a tape of crows attacking an owl and played it through my car stereo. At first I thought I had made a big mistake, instead of the few crows that had been giving me problems I had dozens, it looked like a Hitchcock movie. After an hour of satisfying carnage, they all left for the rest of the summer. The next spring a few more stopped, but playing the tape again didn’t draw them in like the previous year. Seasoned crow hunters explained they seldom called crows in the same area because of the crows intelligence and long memory. I also learned you don’t have to shoot them, just play the tape, they will associate your property as an owls territory and avoid it. I lived there three more years without a problem. RScott
