New York City Department of Education: Can you go to any school in your borough?
So, there’s a highly probable chance that I’m moving in with my dad this year. He is going to be living in Queens, but the part he lives in {Kew Gardens} doesn’t seem to have any great high schools other than the private Jewish institutions. I’m pretty unfamiliar with the department of education in NYC. Can you go to any school in your borough, or is it schooling by zones?
Thanks!

You’re allowed to, but High Schools outside of your zone dont have to accept you, wheras high schools within your zone do. Many times to go to a better school you have to take an entrance exam because they have to provide an education to the kids in their zone, AND support you as well, which puts a strain on the system.
