how to prove your neighbor stole something of yours?

my next door neighbor cant stand my family for some reason. they hated us the moment we moved in. we moved from florida and my mother had given me an angel statue to put in my garden. she said that since she wasnt able to be with us (she was still in florida) that the angel could be her. so because it is a garden angel after we had our whole front lawn landscaped we put it out there along with a bunch of other statues. well we came home one day and noticed it missing. i was heartbroken. so this morning i went in my backyard on my pool deck and noticed my next door neighboors were putting in a pond. i looked over at what they were doing and low and behold in thier garden was my statue!!!! i couldnt believe it!!!! my problem is i dont know how to nab them for stealing it. i was thinking about just jumping the fence and getting it back but its childish and there are sooo many things that could go wrong with it. so what do you think i should do? any suggestions are appreciated!

If you are CERTAIN that it’s your statue then I’d take it back. Mark it with one of those invisible uv markers and then you can call the police if they take it again. Make sure that you have a photo of it in your garden, preferably an old photo that shows it in place a while back.
