algibera help!!!! please help very important?
a garden supply store sells two types of lawn mowers total sales of mowers for the year were 8379.79 the total number of mowers sold was 30 the small mower cost 249.99 the large mower cost 329.99 find the number of mowers sold the answer can be 11,17,19,9
lol I know I spelled it wrong. it’s asking forhow many of the larger lawn mowers I sold. I tried doing substitution and it didn’t work.
You might have to check the details in the original question.
If 30 mowers were sold, and the price of each of the two types of mower ends with 99¢, you’d expect the total amount to end with 70¢.
Anyway, if:
“x” = number of small mowers sold, and
“y” = number of large mowers sold
x + y = 30 ………………………….. equation 1
249.99x + 329.99y = 8379.79 ….. equation 2
Simultaneous equations!
From equation 1, y = 30 – x
Put this “y” value into equation 2:
249.99x + 329.99(30 – x) = 8379.79
249.99x + 9,899.70 – 329.99x = 8379.79
80x = 1519.91
x = 18.998875 ………. let’s say 19
19 small mowers were sold (subtotal = $4,749.81)
11 large mowers were sold (subtotal = $3,629.89)
Grand total = $8,379.70
