FLOWER GARDENING TRIVIA

Which ornamental flowers have the shortest blooms, and which have the longest?
I’m not so interested in shrubs, bushes, or trees, but rather, your basic garden-variety “flowers” or flowering plants. I’m not looking to actually plant any of these — I’m more interested in it from a trivia or “world record” sort of perspective.
You might need a botanist to answer this. Have a university nearby with a botany department? Since there are literally thousands of flowers, it’s a little hard to pin down. I have a book almost 1100 pages long which describes a lot of plants, at least half of them flowers, and it doesn’t even have all the varieties there are. Sorry, I’m not going to look through it checking length of bloom times. How long flowers stay open can vary, according to temperature among other things, so except for the few plants which only bloom for a day, it’s hard to say how long many will last. There are lilies which only bloom for a day, called–get this–day lilies.

Good article, thank you! Can you explain the first paragraph in more detail?
