FLOWER GARDENING SOUTH TEXAS
Garden question?

I posted a question a week ago regarding burrows/holes that were in my flower garden. I thought it might have been from a snake, but we just recently moved to South Texas and not familiar with all the creatures… others told me it may be from frogs. Well….2 days ago I was watering my garden and out comes a LARGE beetle. I know everythings bigger in Texas, but jeez…this thing was HUGE. I’m not kidding when I say it was fat and the length of my thumb. I tried looking it up on the internet, but can’t find anything. I now see that the same hole I found is now by the newly planted trees. Are they some type of large water beetle? I know it’s definitely not one of those large roaches…..it’s not flat….it’s fat and round. I wish I took a picture….anyone have any idea what it is and if it will harm my flowers or trees? Thank you!

Well, since you said it’s got a hole in the ground it’s not a water beetle.

It could be one of the stag or ox beetles.
