Garden Wedding Favors

Garden weddings are becoming a popular choice especially for the warmer spring and summer months. Typically garden wedding favors would consist of a packet of seeds or those little cards with the seeds embedded in them. But with a little creative thinking you can create some unique and novel garden favors to delight your guests.

Here are a few ideas to inspire you:

A citronella candle ward off bugs and flies in the late evening sun and are available in many sixes ranging from tea lights to larger potted candles. Check out your local garden center, supermarkets and online stores for the best deals.

If you are the crafty type you could create your own with some small terracotta pots (block up the hole in the bottom first though) and mix some citronella oil and wax together with a string wick and leave to set. You can then decorate the pots with some ribbon or natural raffia or string.

Flower bulbs make a nice alternative to seeds and are especially good for spring weddings, when you can find an abundance of bulbs in the shops such as tulips, daffodils and narcissi. Present them in a natural colored box on a bed of raffia with some brief planting instructions included.

Inspire your guests to take tea on the lawn when they get home. There are a number of wedding favors you could give along this theme, including:

• Recipes for sponge cake, mini sandwiches and petit fours.
• Sachets of English Breakfast or Earl Grey tea leaves, complete with a pretty china mug and saucer and metal infuser – check out EBay and charity stores for odd tea sets, they create a pretty look to your tables with a touch of vintage charm.
• Give your guests a recipe for lemonade complete with glass pitcher to make it in. Check out wholesalers for good deals on bulk purchases of glass pitchers.
• Alternatively, for something a little more grown up, give them a recipe for alcoholic punch.

Check out favor stores and other online stores for miniature windmills which can be left in pots or flower beds in the garden. You can have them custom made with your choice of colors and printed with your names and wedding date.

If you are on a tight budget or are just looking for simple very simple, then boxes of candies and chocolates will always go down well. Look for flower shaped boxes or those shaped like watering cans. You can fill these with flower shaped candies and chocolates to match your wedding colors.

Finally, treat to them to most popular wedding favor of the moment – custom made cookies. Have them made in flower, bee, watering can and butterfly shapes and iced in your choice of colors. You could also have them made in a tag style and iced with your guest’s names to use as place cards. Have some pretty flowers piped on them too to keep with the garden theme.
