CONTAINER GARDENING WINTER VEGETABLE

What vegetables can be planted in the middle of winter in in the middle of Ireland?
Would espcially like to plant in a container, ie half barrel.
I am just getting into gardening so all help appreciated, as I want to make this my hobby.

This time of the year absolutely nothing outside. I wouldn’t even recommend cloches. Leave it a couple of months, don’t be impatient, spring is around the corner. Anyway you wuold do your soil more harm that goog trampling around on this weather. Hope you enjoy your new hobby, it can be very rewarding.
