CONTAINER GARDENING PICTURES

Can I grow peas in a container?
I have some peas (Pilot) to plant for October. My garden is mostly laid to lawn (kids – football – you get the picture!). Any veggies I do grow are in containers – tomatoes, chillis, carrots. Would peas be ok in a container if I grow them up against a fence for support? I’ve never grown them before so any info/advice gratefully received. Thanks.
Absolutely!
As long as the soil is decent you should have no problems. I’ve had excellent luck for several years growing sugar snap peas in containers. My average annual yield is several gallon sized freezer bags plus whatever the neighbors and family come over and eat off of the vines.
They grow to about 7 feet tall and I support them with a pea fence but you can grow them up anything – they put out little tendrils and will grab hold of whatever they are next to.
I’ve also had luck with cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, carrots, and strawberries in containers, very easy to handle and not having to spend time weeding on the ground is wonderful!
p.s. don’t forget to pick the peas often! the seeds are natures way of telling the plant that it’s job is done, therefore stopping production
Good luck!
