BEGINNING GARDENING BASICS
Should i get involved with helping the environment?

I’m only thirteen, but I think I’d like to begin helping the environment. I don’t think I’ll be able to do anything huge, but maybe some small things like planting a tree, planting some flowers, etc.
I’m moving soon, and the new house has a beautiful backyard and a small area that has some flowers in it, but only a couple, and they look dehydrated and kind of dead-like..

I think it’d be really cool to plant a tree in the backyard. there’s already like two or three evergreen trees and like three other trees, but i really like trees, actually.
Also, i could buy some seeds from Home Depot and plant some flowers in the small garden area. However, I don’t really know the basics of gardening and everything.

There is also a “Green Club” at my school, and I might be able to attand a few of the meetings.

Comments, Suggestions, and Ideas would be really nice.

Thank you.

Considering what time of year it is, you aren’t likely to plant anything for 6 or 7 months. Chances are those flowers look dead because their growing season is over. If they are perennials they will come back in the spring. If they are annuals you can plant more next spring. Take some time and discuss your ideas with your parents. Before you plant any trees consider how big they will be when they are mature. They might look nice when they are small but be they can outgrow their space in a few years if you aren’t careful. Consider fruit trees.
